LoRaWAN radiator thermostat in a rugged version: it replaces the existing thermostat head on the M30 × 1.5 thread and controls every radiator individually — with schedules, open-window detection and feedback on valve position, room temperature and humidity. Without wiring and without intervening in the heating circuit. Batteries included.

The MClimate Vicki replaces the thermostat head on the radiator — and turns every single radiator into a control loop you operate remotely. It does not replace the heating plant, does not intervene in the hydraulics and needs no cable: screw it on, register it in the network, done. For property portfolios it is the cheapest measure with a measurable result, because it manages without building work. Besides the valve position it supplies room temperature and humidity, detects open windows by itself and closes down accordingly. This version is the rugged variant for properties where it is not the owner turning the dial.

What sets the Vicki apart

  • Individual room control without building work: no cable, no intervention in the heating circuit, no draining down. The old head comes off, the Vicki goes on — a few minutes per radiator. Across a hundred radiators that is exactly the difference between a project and an idea.
  • It reports back, it does not just receive: valve position, room temperature, humidity and battery state arrive as data in your system. That lets you see whether a setback actually worked — instead of programming it and hoping.
  • Window open, valve closed: the Vicki detects from the temperature curve that someone is airing the room and closes down by itself. In schools and offices that is the single largest saving, because the person doing the airing is not the one responsible for the heating bill.
  • Schedules per room: setback at night, at weekends, during holidays — per radiator and without anyone having to be on site. An empty school building does not have to be held at 21 degrees.
  • Rugged version: this variant is designed for properties where many people come and go — it takes more than the living-room version.
  • Fits almost everything: standard M30 × 1.5 thread, with adapters available for older valves. That covers most of the Swiss installed base.

Where it is used

  • Property managers and housing cooperatives: the main case — retrofitting individual room control across many properties without touching the plant.
  • Schools and public buildings: usage hours are known and the vacant periods are long. A setback works immediately here.
  • Offices and administrations: control by occupancy instead of by calendar.
  • Hotels and accommodation: only heat rooms when they are occupied.
  • Energy projects with a duty of proof: where a measure has to be documented, the device supplies the data along with it.
  • Rented flats: check condition and climate without entering the flat.
Check the valve first — that is where most retrofits come unstuck. The Vicki has the standard M30 × 1.5 thread. If your radiator has an older Danfoss valve of the RA or RA-N series, there is no thread there but a clamp connection — then you additionally need an adapter to M30 × 1.5. Adapters also exist for RAV, RAVL, ORAS and other designs; when in doubt, send us a photo of the valve. Second: the manufacturer’s software is tailored to end customers. For running a property the route goes through your own network server and your management software — technically it is an ordinary class A LoRaWAN actuator and can be integrated into any platform. And third: an actuator draws considerably more current than a sensor. For replacements use lithium AA cells, not alkaline — they cope better with the cold and do not collapse under the motor load.

That settles the selection. What follows is the depth for operation.

What a thermostat head can do — and what it cannot

An electronic head controls the flow of water through that one radiator. It cannot lower the flow temperature of the plant and cannot repair a hydraulically unbalanced system. If individual rooms fundamentally fail to warm up, that is down to the balancing and not to the head — the Vicki makes it visible, but does not make it go away.

Where it does work, though, it works reliably: on timed setbacks, on open windows and on rooms heated by habit rather than by need. The usual mistake in sizing is too aggressive a setback — if a room is run down too far overnight, reheating in the morning costs more than the night saved, and the users turn everything up the next day. Two to three degrees of setback is in practice the point where saving and comfort meet.

On battery life: it depends almost entirely on how often the motor moves. A head whose target temperature is adjusted several times a day uses a multiple of one with two switching points per day. Plan the replacement as recurring maintenance and use the device’s battery report instead of swapping by the calendar.

Help with the rollout

Are you equipping a property and wondering which adapters you need, how many gateways cover the buildings, or how the data gets into your management software? Tell us how many radiators and buildings are involved — we will go through the valve types with you and work out the radio coverage before the first order goes out. For sizing, pre-configuration and commissioning we will gladly put together a quote.
